Karen Carter Peterson

Karen Carter Peterson represents much of New Orleans in the District 5 seat in the Louisiana Senate.
She is a member of the following Senate committees: Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs (on an interim basis), Health & Welfare, Judiciary B, Local & Municipal Affairs and the Hurricane Recovery select committee.[1]
Peterson was elected to the position Feb. 6, 2010,[2] in a special election following the resignation of Cheryl Gray Evans, who moved away from Louisiana after marrying. Peterson, a Democrat, was sworn in March 1, 2010.[3]
No challengers filed to oppose Peterson's re-election to a full term in the Senate in 2011.[4]
Previously, Peterson represented District 93 in the Louisiana House of Representatives.
