The Hurstville neighborhood runs roughly from Magazine Street to Loyola Avenue, between Jefferson Avenue and Nashville Avenue, but also includes a handful blocks outside this area.

The neighborhood has two separate but related community associations: the Security District and the Neighborhood Improvement Association.

Hurstville Security District

The Security District was formed in 2007 by a vote of the neighborhood to contract for additional patrols. The district is funded by a $460 fee on each of the neighborhood's 750 parcels, and it contracts with off-duty New Orleans Police Department officers for 16 hours per day of patrols[1].

Its president until 2013 is George Young.
