Helena Moreno

Helena Moreno is a former television newscaster who represents House District 93 in the Louisiana House of Representatives, which is primarily based in the Central Business District, French Quarter and Seventh Ward, but also includes a handful of Garden District and Central City precincts.

Moreno, a Democrat, won the seat in a 2010 special election to succeed Karen Carter Peterson, who had resigned in her own successful bid for a vacant state Senate seat. [1]

The following spring, Moreno joined Uptown New Orleans-based state Reps. Walt Leger and Neil C. Abramson and fellow Democrats on the House floor to defeat a redistricting proposal by Jefferson Parish Republicans that Abramson said was "slicing and dicing New Orleans up."[2] Ultimately, her District 93 lost only a few of its Uptown precincts.

In the fall of 2011, Moreno was unopposed for re-election to the seat [3]

In late July of 2012, Moreno said she was considering a run for the District B seat on the New Orleans City Council in the 2012 special election[4].
